Logbook4U ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our sailing logbook application and website (logbook4u.com).

By using Logbook4U, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2.1 Personal Information

We may collect the following personal data when you use our service:

• Email address (for account creation and activation)
• Payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we do not store card data)
• Activation key information

2.2 Logbook Data

Your sailing logbook entries may include:

• Trip details (departure, arrival, dates, times)
• GPS location data (coordinates, harbors, routes, waypoints)
• Weather information
• Crew information
• Notes and remarks
• Photos and attachments
• Fuel and engine information

2.3 Device & Technical Information

We may automatically collect:

• Device model and operating system
• Browser type and version (web version)
• IP address
• App performance data
• Anonymous crash reports and diagnostics
• Usage analytics

This data is used only to maintain and improve the application.

We use your data to:

• Provide and maintain the Logbook4U service
• Process subscription payments
• Send activation keys and account emails
• Record your sailing trips and GPS positions
• Improve performance, stability, and user experience
• Provide customer support
• Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

We do not sell your information.

4.1 Local Storage

Your logbook data is stored locally on your device:

• Your data stays on your device
• We do not have access to your local logbook entries
• Local data can be deleted by uninstalling the app or clearing app data
• You are responsible for backing up your data if needed

4.2 Data Security

We take security seriously:

• Payment data is encrypted and processed by Stripe
• All web communications use SSL/TLS encryption
• We implement industry-standard security measures
• Regular security updates and monitoring

The Android app may request the following permissions:

5.1 Location (Precise & Approximate)

Used to:

• Record trip coordinates and routes
• Display map positions
• Calculate distances between waypoints
• Provide anchor alarm (if used)

Location is collected only when using GPS features.

If background location is ever needed for anchor alarm or tracking, we will request it separately with an in-app explanation.

5.2 Photos / Media / Files

Permission Usage: Logbook4u requests access to photos ONLY when you choose to attach photos to your trip log entries. This is an optional feature - you can use all other app functionality without granting this permission.

What We Access:

• Only the specific photos you select to attach to trip entries
• We do NOT scan, access, or view any other photos on your device
• We do NOT access your photo library unless you explicitly tap "Add Images"

How It Works:

• When you tap "Add Images" in a trip entry, your device's photo picker opens
• You manually select which photos to attach (up to 6 photos per trip)
• Selected photos are stored locally within the app's private storage on your device
• Photos remain on your device and are never uploaded to external servers

Android Photo Picker: On Android 11 and newer devices, we use the Android Photo Picker which provides access to selected photos without requiring broad media permissions. On older devices, the system may request READ_MEDIA_IMAGES permission.

Your Control:

• This feature is completely optional - the app works fully without photos
• You can deny the permission and still use all other features
• You can revoke access at any time in your device settings
• Attached photos can be removed from trip entries at any time
• All photos are stored locally on your device only

Privacy Guarantee: We only access photos you explicitly select. We do not access, scan, upload, or share any photos from your device. All photos remain stored locally on your device.

5.3 Storage

Used to:

• Save your logbook data locally
• Store photos and attachments within the app directory

5.4 Internet Access

Used for:

• Login and activation
• Payment processing
• Email communication
• Weather and map data

5.5 Notifications (Optional)

Used for:

• Anchor alarm alerts
• Updates and important reminders

You can disable notifications at any time.

5.6 In-App Permission Notices

Before requesting sensitive permissions, the app will show an in-app explanation of:

• What data is accessed
• Why it is needed
• When it will be used

The app does not access any data until permission is granted.

We may share minimal, required data with:

• Stripe: subscription payments
• Email provider: sending activation emails and support messages
• Map provider: displaying maps and coordinates
• Analytics / Crash reporting: improving stability and performance

All third parties are required to protect your data and cannot use it for unrelated purposes.

7. Advertising

Logbook4U does not show ads and does not use your data for advertising or profiling.

You have the right to:

• Access your data
• Correct or update your information
• Export your logbook data (CSV or PDF)
• Request deletion of your account data
• Opt out of non-essential analytics

You may request deletion of your account data at any time by emailing:

• Your account email
• Confirmation that you want your account data deleted

Deletion Timeline

• Acknowledgement: within 7 days
• Full data deletion: within 30 days of verification
• Backups: may take up to 90 days to fully purge

Note: Deleting your account does not remove local data stored on your device. To remove local data, uninstall the app or clear app data from your device settings.

10. Device Data & Crash Reports

The app may collect anonymized crash logs and technical diagnostics.

These logs do not include your logbook entries or photos unless you voluntarily submit them.

11. Children's Privacy

Logbook4U is not intended for children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Data may be processed in countries other than your own.

We ensure appropriate safeguards following GDPR and other laws.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

Changes will be posted here with an updated "Last Updated" date.
